A-175 Personality as a Proxy for Positive Effort: The Role of Grit, Need for Cognition, and Extraversion in Problem-Solving

Abstract Objective This study aimed to examine the effect of personality traits on a simple problem-solving test intelligence. Method The sample consisted 82 undergraduates. Participants completed an online battery that included open source Five Factor Model measure (IPIP FFM), Grit scale, Need for Cognition (NFC) and Cognitive Reflection Test (CRT). CRT is 3 question An interaction variable positive effort was created by multiplying total raw scores NFC scales (Grit x NFC). Correlations were conducted between NFC, IPIP FFM, score. Scales significantly correlated with score entered into regression model. Results Pearson correlations revealed significant association performance, (r = 0.240, p < 0.05).
